Sionna Ellison
Sionna Ellison was born into a musical family in April 2003 at the Lac-Saint-Louis Birthing Centre in Pointe-Claire, Quebec to Keith Jarrett’s iconic solo album “The Melody at Night with You". She was immersed into the jazz language as a baby and slowly developed her musical vocabulary over her 22 years, listening to the trumpet and voice of her father (Charles Ellison), and the flute, voice, and piano of her mother (Shannon Thomson), as well as the many recordings from her family’s musical library.
Besides singing, Sionna began photographing at the age of 5. Her immense collection of thousands of photos includes many of the nighttime sky, which has inspired her project entitled “The Cosmos Sings: Engaging the Night through the Jazz Aural Tradition”.
Sionna is currently in her second year in Jazz Studies at Concordia University. She has been inspired by many vocalists, among them: Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Samara Joy, Ranee Lee, Dawn Thomson, Kim Richardson and Kerry-Anne Kutz.
