Taurey Butler
Originally from East Orange, New Jersey, USA, Taurey Butler began studying piano when he was only seven years old.
In 2007, Taurey Butler arrived in Montreal - a place he had dreamed of visiting ever since learning that it was Oscar Peterson’s hometown. He quickly secured a regular weekend engagement with his own trio at one of Montreal’s most prestigious clubs, La Maison du Jazz, where he performed until the venue closed during the pandemic.
Before long, he signed with the renowned Canadian jazz label Justin Time Records. Since then, his trio has released two albums, the most recent earning an exceptional 4½ out of 5 stars from the internationally acclaimed DownBeat magazine, along with unanimously glowing reviews from all major jazz publications.
He has performed in Quebec’s most prestigious concert halls and at all the major music festivals in the province. He also established the annual Charlie Brown Christmas Concert tradition at Salle Bourgie of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, which celebrated its tenth edition in December 2024.
His trio was also invited to perform at the Orchestre Métropolitain Christmas concert, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, in both 2022 and 2024.
